GETFund contractors welcome efforts to get them paid

The Association of GETFund Contractors has urged the Finance Minister to follow through with his promise to pay monies owed them for work done since 2016.

Mr. Ofori-Atta while answering questions in Parliament last week, as to when the contractors will receive their payment, said his outfit has begun validation processes to pay the debts.

Reacting to the steps being taken by the Finance Ministry to settle the debts, the Secretary to the GETFund Contractors Association, Samuel Ofori Kumah said any further delay will worsen the plight of members of his association.

“We’ve been asking for our monies for some time now. Some of the contractors are still holding certificates dating back to 2016 and we’ve had promises upon promises. So, if the Finance Minister has come out himself saying they are doing some validation which we thought had been done already because we don’t know the details of what validation that they are doing. But if they are doing validation for us to be paid as soon as possible then it’s welcoming news.”

Mr. Kumah urged the government not to delay any their payments any further, as life is currently unbearable for them.

“All we can say is that for now, we are asking for our monies to be paid. We’ve gone to the banks to take monies and the banks are almost always on our necks. I mean this is telling the condition which some of our colleagues are in now, it is very deplorable and so pathetic.”
