Courier services petition regulatory commission over high charges

The National Courier Association Ghana has petitioned the Postal and Courier Services Regulatory Commission to reduce the licensing fee to allow its members to register with the commission.

The association wants this done to reduce the number of illegal courier operators in the country.

The National Courier Association which has expressed its displeasure several times over the licensing fee, marched to the Postal and Courier Services Regulatory Commission to present its petition to them.

It says although members are willing to operate legally, the high cost of licensing fee discourages them. President of the National Courier Association of Ghana Kwame Bekoe led the team.

“We are emploring your outfit to reduce the licensing fee to enable all operators to register with the commission. These companies are law-abiding whose wishes and priorities are to provide and create a source of livelihood for themselves and the society,” he said.

Receiving their petition, the acting Executive Secretary of the Postal and Courier Services Regulatory Commission, Hamdaratu Zakaria said the outfit will take a look at the petition although she emphasized that it is no guarantee that it will be reviewed downwards.

“We will sit on it, take all issues into consideration and get back to them soon,” she assured.

Meanwhile, Kwame Bekoe said he is positive their petition will be considered and acted upon with urgency.
