Increased support needed to tap into US$150 billion gaming market

Senior Manager for Products and Services at MTN Bless Agordjo has challenged stakeholders within the gaming ecosystem in Ghana to help develop the space to enable Ghana tap into the multibillion-dollar gaming market.

Ghana’s revenue from the gaming industry in 2018 was estimated to be around $ 23 Million dollars, the 8th highest behind countries like Egypt and South Africa who made over $ 200 million each in the same year.

Speaking to Citi Business News on the sidelines of the maiden MTN Gaming Conference held in Accra, Bless Agordjo said Ghana’s gaming industry can only grow to create employment and generate revenue for government if all stakeholders show commitment.

“At MTN we have started setting the pace with this conference. It’s, however, a collective responsibility. Once we’ve started with this initial conference we believe that government and other agencies that are within the gaming ecosystem will begin to do more to propel growth in the sector.”

The maiden Gaming Conference in the country brought together stakeholders in the gaming community including programmers, artists, producers, game designers, audio professionals and business decision-makers to exchange ideas in the development of interactive games and experiences to shape the future of the industry in Ghana.

The conference was addressed by international game consultant Eric Elder and Business Development Manager at Unity Technologies Johana Riquier.
