GEPA awards finalists of Export Project Competition

As part of plans to encourage youth entrepreneurs to pay attention to the export of their produce, the Ghana Export Promotion Authority has presented a cheque of  Ghc15,000 in total to some three entrepreneurs for coming up tops in the Ghana Export Project Competition.

The three were awarded after the judges evaluated about 30,000 entries.

Six were shortlisted to present their projects to the judges after which three finally emerged winners.

CEO of GEPA, Madam Afua Asabea Asare, said this is to encourage the youth to go into the export sector.

“This competition was designed to engage the youth’s attention and focus on the export sector. We have resolved as an institution to begin inculcating in our youth the export awareness and knowledge so that more of them can be attracted to take export as a vocation or profession.”

She added that “If we can succeed in doing this in the short to medium-term, the effect and impact on our revenue will be significant”.

One of the award winners, Bright Afari, who also took home three thousand Ghana cedis, and CEO of Hill Bill Shoes, told Citi Business News he is looking forward to export his shoes next year.

“GEPA is going to assist us to export our products and it is something that I am really grateful for. I am glad I participated in this competition. We intend to have an expansion of our production capacity to be able to meet the demand and export as well”.

Other winners were Abraham Allotey of Allotey Honey Bee Farms, who bagged two thousand cedis, and Jeffery Osei Bonsu of Ignite Farms, who won ten thousand Ghana cedis as the ultimate winner.
