New figures published by the Ghana COCOBOD show that the country has been able to export cocoa beans as at January 2020 to the tune of 596,000 tonnes.
This is an improvement in cocoa beans export recorded in the previous season which stood at 591,000 tonnes.
The term for such exports known as graded and sealed cocoa captures the amount of cocoa beans checked for its quality and sealed in bags for export.
The harvest for Ghana’s cocoa beans starts in October, and it is expected to continue until mid-year.
According to COCOBOD, cocoa production in Ghana this season is expected to reach 850,000 tonnes.
The regulator of the sector is hopeful the supply of fertilizer and the introduction of improved seeds will help the country increase its production in the future.
