Automobile company, Toyota Ghana Company limited, says it is confident in the ability of frontline workers to combat the spread and eventual containment of COVID-19 in Ghana if they’re given the needed support.
To this end, the company has made a vital donation to two institutions to aid their work.
The Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research received a Toyota Corolla vehicle, while the Ga East Municipal Hospital has been presented with Personal Protective Equipment, PPE.
Speaking after the presentations, the General Manager of National Logistics at Toyota Ghana, Jacob Pimpong, said he hopes the support will yield the needed results.
“Since the pandemic broke, we have been monitoring through the media all the efforts that the various institutions have been putting in, and we felt that there is the need to also support and encourage them. In view of that, we decided to give a vehicle to Noguchi to enable them commute effectively between their institutions and other state institutions. We also believe that with the vehicle, they will be able to perform their work very efficiently,” he said.
He added that, “Here at Ga East Hospital, we know the work that they have also been doing in attending to COVID-19 patients, and we felt that they need to protect themselves hence the items we have donated to them.”
The Toyota Corolla is a 1.8 litre engine capacity worth GH¢197,000.
The Ga East Municipal Hospital received PPE comprising nose masks, surgical gloves, disposable gowns, hand sanitizers, veronica buckets with stands, bottled water, tissue and liquid soap.
The Director of Noguchi, Prof. Abraham Kwabena Anang, while showing gratitude for the gesture said “Industry and health research have come together in a partnership that will stand the test of time. We are grateful for the gesture by Toyota as they have brought a donation that will support the work of the Institute.”
On his part, the Medical Superintendent for the Ga East Municipal Hospital, Dr. Ebenezer Oduro Mensah, said, “These are disposable items, hence they need to be replenished, and we need them to stay protected. By so doing, we are more confident in fighting the disease. We hope other companies come on board to support on a daily basis.”
