Atronie farmers appeal for better roads to boost carting of produce

Cocoa farmers in the Atronie Electoral Area in the Sunyani East Municipality of the Bono Region are calling on the Municipal Assembly to reshape their feeder roads to enable them cart their produce to the Atronie town to sell.

Citi Business News checks in the area show that roads leading to cocoa-growing communities within the Atronie Electoral Area are in a deplorable state.

The Atronie Electoral Area is a major cocoa growing hub within the Municipality with close to one hundred cocoa farmers.

Some of the cocoa-growing communities in the area include Pokukrom, Mekobikrom, Tuobodom, Kakrakura among others.

However, one major problem confronting these cocoa farmers is how to cart their produce to the Atronie township because of the bad nature of their roads.

The farmers are therefore calling on the Sunyani East Municipal Assembly to give their roads a face-lift.

“We are suffering in the rain. We have to carry and send it Nwowasu before car carts it. We are old and do not have the strength to carry them. Previously we used to send it to Nwowasu but now we do not send it there again. We use this very road which is bad. We have talked about it but nothing is has been done about it. We want the government to do something about the road,” Joseph Kombat a cocoa farmer stated.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Sunyani East Municipality, Justina Owusu Banahene, has assured the farmers that something will be done about their roads.
