Axis Pension Trust has held its annual Pre-Retirement Seminar for 2020 on the theme, “Empowering the Axis Retiree to Retire in Style”.
The event on September 18, was successfully held via a digital platform allowing stakeholders to join virtually in adherence to COVID-19 prevention protocols.
The innovative nature of the Axis Team and its commitment to stakeholders was evident in the successful organization of this event in the current climate.
The 2020 Axis Pension Pre-Retirement Seminar was organized to enable members who are nearing retirement to prepare adequately.
Axis Pension Trust assembled experienced and well-resourced experts in their fields to lead sessions on health, what to expect at retirement, accessing your benefits from the various schemes and how to make your retirement income last you longer.
The General Manager of Axis Pension Trust, Paa Kofi Ankomah, welcomed participants by assuring them that it is Axis Pension’s utmost concern to see them enjoy your retirement.
In his address, Mr. Ankomah emphasized the organization’s commitment to empower the Axis retiree to be distinguished in every aspect from any other retiree despite the ongoing pandemic.
He further highlighted how the consequent effects of COVID-19 was a welcome challenge for Axis in ensuring that it fulfilled its duties as a Corporate Trustee.
“As at 31 July 2020, Axis Pension Trust has successfully processed and paid out GHS21.9million for retirees. The introduction of our beneficiary update feature on our online portal and the launch of its USSD and WhatsApp service channels ensures that clients can access Axis services wherever they themselves.”
The Head of Corporate Client Relations, Emmanuel Ntreh, broke down the calculation of retirement benefits as well as the necessary steps retirees need to take in order to access their retirement benefits when it is due.
In his presentation, he stressed that, “It is very important to engage the designated institutions mandated to pay your retirement benefits to ensure that records are up to date in order to avoid any challenges.”

The rising average life expectancy of Ghanaians means that retirees are dependent on their accrued retirement benefits for longer periods.
Mimi Anane-Appiah, a financial planner at Axis Pension Trust, introduced participants to the Axis Retirement Annuity Plan as a viable option to manage retirement income to last throughout the years of retirement. The Axis Retirement Annuity Plan is a financial product that grows an individual’s lump sum amount and provides a monthly cash flow. She emphasized the need for such a solution to manage shortfalls in retirement income.
As the old adage goes, health is wealth. For this reason, Dr. Madison Adanusah encouraged participants to be mindful of their health during retirement.
He highlighted the need to “start slowly and progressively increase physical activity or exercise to a moderate intensity.”

In his presentation, the National Chairman of the National Pensioners Association, S. A. Sesi, said old age could be agonizing for people who did not plan for it. He said it was, therefore, important for retirees to adequately plan for their pension by starting businesses that would feed them in their old age.

The seminar concluded on a high note with Axis Pension Trust confirming its commitment to ensure Ghanaian workers attain a dignified retirement.
