Tourism Chamber lauds KIA’s ACI Airport Health Accreditation Certificate

The Chamber for Tourism Industry Ghana, has commended the Ghana Airports Company and the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority following Kotoka International Airport’s receipt of the Airports Council International’s Airport Health Accreditation Certificate.

Speaking to Citi Business News, Chief Operations Officer for the Chamber, Angela Akua Asante, said the Chamber believes this would boost the confidences of visitors coming into the country by air.

“We are absolutely delighted about this news; for the Kotoka International Airport to receive the ACI Airport Accreditation Certificate. It is commendable and great for the industry, not just the industry of aviation but also of tourism. We represent as a chamber and I can tell you that as a passenger you are required to test negative to covid, but you will also want to make sure that when you go to your country, you don’t return with COVID-19. Having this certificate would ease the fears of many passengers and encourage them to come to Ghana. It has to be plugged in with a reduced fee of the antigen test that is being made mandatory at the Airport”

Ghana is one of the two countries on the continent to have received the accreditation. Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport, Mauritius, is the first airport in Africa to be accredited in the ACI Airport Health Accreditation (AHA) programme.

The ACI Airport Health Accreditation (AHA) programme enables airports to demonstrate to passengers, staff, regulators and governments that they are prioritizing health and safety in a measurable and established manner.

It also allows airports to validate their own measures throughout their facilities and processes.

This accreditation is in recognition of the implementation of the recommended health measures in the ACI Aviation Business Restart and Recovery guidelines, and the ICAO Council Aviation Recovery Task Force (CART) Recommendations, along with industry best practices.

The announcement of the accreditation was made by the Ghana Airport Company Limited over the weekend via its official social media pages.
