The University of Cape Coast (UCC), has won the maiden edition of the inter-tertiary quiz competition, dubbed, UniGeek Challenge, after beating competition from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana Communication Technology University, (GCTU) and Central University.
The technology competition, organized by Leann Consult in collaboration with telecommunications giant, MTN Ghana, is intended to promote ICT education in tertiary institutions across the country.
Project Director for Leann Consult, Fiifi Banson, in an interview with Citi Business News during the finals at Accra Digital Centre, said the initiative will help to promote the study of technology as well as the training of more young people to drive Ghana’s national digitization agenda.

He said the company will introduce new and refreshing ideas to subsequent editions to boost competition and attract more followers.
The two winning contestants from UCC, Samuel Abdul-Rahman Adetsi, and Jason Kwame Appiatu, received a GHS 4,000 cash prize, personal laptop computers, desktop computers for their institution, as well as souvenirs from MTN and Promasidor Ghana, producers of Cowbell Coffee.
The level 300 Information Technology and Computer Science students lauded the initiative and appealed to government to prioritize technology education by upgrading ICT centres in schools to attract more young people to train and develop their skills.
