In Ghana, many factors are increasing pressure in the transport sector to better transport infrastructure especially, in the use of public transport buses, commonly called ‘trotro’.
To speed up the pace of this evolution and push the government’s digitization agenda in the transport sector, bus-hailing platform, Treepz, which provides hassle-free shared rides on-demand, has officially expanded its services to Ghana.
Ghana, under the current government has been pushing an intensive digitization agenda in all sectors of the economy.
In the transport sector, the government has been working towards increased digitisation of public services, while leveraging the rising use of digital technologies to boost the sector.
Treepz, which used to be known as Plentywaka, is a bus-booking app which provides commuters with a one-stop booking portal for reliable bus transportation.
Elated about the development, Deputy Minister for Transport, Fredrick Obeng Adom, explained that the launch of this platform in Ghana forms part of the bigger picture to push technology into the transport sector.
“I am particularly excited about this particular ceremony because of the opportunity it offers to further boost our commitment to scale up the adoption of technology in the transport sector to ensure efficiency in service delivery and ultimately, achieve government’s digital transformation agenda.”
“Without doubt, the private sector has continued to play a role in our development process, particularly through job creation for the many young men and women. It is therefore important that, as a responsible government, we accord such businesses and any new startups the necessary assistance to sustain them so that the larger society will benefit from their services.”
Fifteen mini-buses have so far been outdoored to commence the provision of services to commuters in Accra. Isidore Kpotufe is the Country Manager of Treepz Ghana.
“We have 15 buses ready to be deployed on the road. This very evening the first batch will start plying from Adenta to Accra, Spintex to Accra, and Dansoman to Accra. People should expect convenience and comfort delivered trough the Treepz app,” he assured.
