Ghana will be participating in the largest cultural and diplomatic fair, as 192 countries converge at the World Expo 2020, which will be held in Dubai from October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022.
The country is poised to leverage this grand occasion, to showcase the immense opportunities it offers across business, culture and human capital.
Guided by its sub-theme ‘limitless opportunities’, Ghana’s participation in the Expo 2020 Dubai will underscore government’s commitment to be an active player in the promotion of creativity, and exhibit the huge investment, trade, education, environment and sanitation.
One of the key facets of the nation’s contingent – the Ghana Pavilion – has been exquisitely designed, to mirror the trading floor of a stock exchange, with unique Ghanaian flavour. The pavilion, segmented into three zones (Business cluster, Cultural cluster, and Ghana report zone) presents a brief overview of Ghana’s vision and plan for the future, its mutual-value approach to
investment, and commitment to a future driven by business and growth.
Speaking at Ghana’s launch of the World Expo on Monday, 27th September, 2021, the Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, Herbert Krapa, said the country will be involved in a plethora of activities at the mega-event, to attract foreign investment.
“We seek to exhibit a series of investment opportunities in tourism and trade at the Expo which we are sure will generate great growth avenues for Ghana. We are also blessed with amazing partners and great support extended from Expo Dubai team”.
Part of the activity line-up, he said includes, a Ghana Business and Investment Forum, with monthly presentations by experts on investment opportunities in key sectors such as; Food and Agriculture, Energy, Education, Tourism, Culture and Arts, Lands and Natural Resources, Sanitation and Environment.
Ghana’s team will also be making presentations at thematic business fora, on topics regarding; ‘Food, Agriculture and livelihood’, ‘Travel and Connectivity’, as well as ‘Opportunity in Knowledge and Learning’.
Moreover, on the 8th of March, 2022, which has been dedicated to Ghana, as its National Day at the Expo, the President, H.E Nana Akufo-Addo Dankwa will participate in the activities, by joining specialized investment fora, and engaging stakeholders in high-level meetings.
Meanwhile, the CEO of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), Mr Yofi Grant, has asserted that the country’s activities at the Expo, will be geared towards promoting government’s priority sectors, comprising; “housing and construction, manufacturing, technology and digital economy, tourism and creative arts, agric and agro-processing, as well as health”.
He described the World Expo as “a wonderful opportunity to propagate Ghana’s numerous opportunities to
investors”.
Still on Ghana’s activities at the Dubai Expo, the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Hon. Cecilia Dapaah said, for the month of October, a series of engagements will be embarked on, to “tell the world of the successes the country has chalked in the sanitation sector so far, and the gaps left to be filled through strategic partnerships”.
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong, also addressing the media, opined that, his outfit will ensure that Ghana is well represented at the Expo, by coordinating the activities of the various ministries that will be participating.
Ghana’s participation in Expo 2020, is being overseen by a National Planning Committee, with members drawn from various MDAs and private sector including; Ministry of Trade and Industry, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Ghana Export Promotion Authority, Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, Ghana Free Zones Authority, Ghana Tourism Authority, Ghana Trade Fair Company, Ghana Standards Authority, COCOBOD, Ghana Enterprises Agency (National Board for Small Scale Industries), Federation of Associations of Ghanaian Exporters, Ghana Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Association of Ghanaian Industries.
The Dubai Expo 2020 under its overarching theme ‘Connecting Minds and Creating the Future’, will avail the opportunity for people all around the world to connect and experience the best of art, culture, geography, science, technology, innovation and invention, and launch countless new thoughts and ideas that will impact our lives for the better.
The opening ceremony for Expo 2020 Dubai will be held on 30 September. The expo runs for six
months, from 1st October 2021 to 31st March 2022.
