The Chartered Institute of Bankers, Ghana is being charged to ramp up efforts in offering digital skills training to its members as Ghana moves into a cash-lite economy.
This call comes at a time where stakeholders in the banking sector are increasingly instituting digital services in order not to be left out of the digitalization agenda.
Just as Ghana keeps gravitating towards more digital and ICT-inclined means of operating, stakeholders in the banking space are being urged to introduce practical courses that involve training prospective bankers to be more digitally inclined to move along with the current trends.
Delivering a speech during the 12th Graduation and Induction Ceremony of the Chartered Institute of Bankers on behalf of the Minister of Education, the Director in charge of tertiary education at the Ministry of Education, Dr. Eric Nkansah, tasked the Institute to introduce courses in line with digitization to build its members.
“We are all witnesses of how digitization is changing the face of banking today. Therefore, the Institute must step up its efforts to offer its members a wide range of digital skills training and capacity building. To this end, the Institute must consider rolling out curricula development and introduce other courses in line with digitization.”
President of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, Right Rev Patricia Sappor, reiterated the need for the newly graduated bankers to adhere strictly to best banking practises and maintain high ethical and professional standards within the banking industry in Ghana.
“We believe that all the training you have undergone during this period will equip you for the task ahead. As you take a step in your various professional fields, it is my belief that you will rise up to the call; upholding the tenets of the banking profession with utmost professionalism, integrity and excellence. As the world continues to move towards a digital era and a much more digital and “cash-lite” economy, we need to continue to innovate and reposition ourselves and the way we do things; in business, banking, education etc.”
Emmanuella Otoo Lartey who emerged as the overall best graduating student urged her colleagues in the sector to come up with innovative products that will push the sector.
She said, “We just have to be hard-working and create more products that differentiate us as banks. Now all the banks are doing the same thing. We have to do more research and find out products that will differentiate ourselves.”
The 12th Graduation and Induction Ceremony of the Chartered Institute of Bankers took place on Saturday, November 20, 2021, in Accra.
179 students of the Institute were inducted as bankers.
