Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Bulk Oil Distributors Senyo Hosi has urged the youth of the Volta Region to consider investing in other parts of the agricultural value-chain instead of just focusing on traditional farming.
According to the businessman, who is also the founder of an indigenous agric social business in the Volta Region, HGL, the expertise required in producing food crops does not make the area an easy field to succeed in.
Mr. Hosi noted that opportunities such as “aggregation, processing and distribution” are all areas youth could invest in to make significant returns.
Mr. Hosi was speaking at the “Young Entrepreneurs Breakfast Meeting” at Skyplus Hotel as part of the 5th Volta trade and investment fair.
The event was graced by illustrious sons and daughters of the Volta Region who are doing great in their various spheres of business.
Mr. Hosi shared the platform with Pastor Mawuli Benson of Glofert Ltd, Emi-Beth Quantson of Kawa Moka and Felix Mawuli Kamassah of Maphlix Trust Ghana Ltd under the moderation of Bernard Avle of Citi FM/TV.
Dr. Felix Kamassah, taking his turn to address the youthful audience, said “farming remains one of the economic activities with a capacity of lifting many from poverty”.
Maphlix which operates 2,900 acres of various vegetables, depends on an out-grower scheme for about 30% of its sales, which Dr. Kamassah said is an easy avenue to rope more people into agriculture.
