GCB embarks on breast cancer awareness walk

Indigenous Bank, Ghana Commercial Bnak PLC has embarked on a sensitisation walk as part of activities to create awareness of breast cancer.

The walk was part of efforts for create more awareness to its customers and the general public about the impact of breast cancer on both men and women.

It was on the theme: “Together we rise”.

Addressing the media after the walk, the Deputy Managing Director of the bank in charge of Operations, Emmanuel Odartey Lamptey, said the event was part of the banks corporate social responsibility (CSR), which was focused on education, health, among others.

He said the CSR allowed the bank to contribute towards social development goals in the country.

“In Ghana, GCB for close to 70 years has been supporting the country’s economic development, and beyond that we have also conttibuted in various ways toward social development goals. So we have set ourselves with the 2,400 staff that we have in GCB to spread across the country to contribute to the awareness creation in their homes and communities,” he said.

He explained that from the beginning of the month of October, the bank engaged in an internal awareness creation at all its branches nationwide by speaking to the staff about the disease.

Mr Lamptey also noted that the activities were informative as they shared experiences and lessons on how to focus on healthy lifestyles, “a walk being one of them and eating healthy.

Expansion

The Chief Medical Officer, GCB, Dr Humphrey Narh, said the walk was a form of exercise to help them keep fit and was done once every quarter of the year.

He expressed the hope that in the coming years, the exercise and awareness creation, through free screening, would be extended broadly to the general public.
