Five business executives suspected to have breached data protection laws have been arrested by a joint team operation led by the Data Protection Commission (DPC) and the Ghana Police Service.

The Commission in a bid to ensure that businesses possess the required authorisation to process clients’ data embarked on an enforcement operation on Thursday to arrest business owners for non-compliance.

The suspects were arrested at various spots including Care Flight Ghana, the Morning Star School, Embassy Gardens, Darkuman branch of Kabfam Ghana Limited and Grace Homeopathic Clinic.

Speaking to the media after embarking on the operations, the Director of Regulatory Compliance at the Commission, Quintin Akrobotu said businesses must submit their data collection operations under the supervision of the Commission.

He added that, these executives will be facing prosecution as the Commission intensifies efforts to crack the whip on institutions failing to register data collection operations.

Quintin Akrobotu further warned that defaulters will not be spared.
