South Africa’s clothing retailer Edgars has begun operations in Ghana.
Edgars first outlet is located in the West Hills Mall.
The mall opened for operations last week.
Edgars parent company Edcon, early this year announced it will open stores in Ghana and Nigeria this year.
Its CEO Jürgen Schreiber said ‘This (Africa) remains an exciting opportunity going forward. We normally go into a new country with Jet. In Zambia though, we went in with Edgars too — it’s working well. In the second half, we’ll go into Ghana with both Edgars and Jet, because the market is quite strong. In Nigeria we’ll take a discount approach and not an Edgars one at this point,”
Edcon which is the largest clothing retailer in South Africa operates in 154 stores across Botswana, Namibia, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabawe.
