The National Communications Authority (NCA) has confirmed to Citi Business News that it has received a formal request from
Goldkey Telecoms to extend the deadline for it to begin operations.
The NCA had earlier this year issued a directive that all companies issued with a 4G LTE network license are to commence
operations by the end of November this year or risk losing their license.
Goldkey Telecoms was one of three Ghanaian companies given the go ahead to commence operations.
However Goldkey Telcom according to the NCA has requested for a three month extension.
According to the authority it is reviewing the request for the extension, following which a decision will be taken.
The other two companies issued with the same license Surfline Telecoms and Blu Telecom have began operation.
Meanwhile a fully owned Ghanaian company Broadband Home Limited has also been issued with a 4G license.
This brings to four, the number of companies that have attained the 4G license in the country.
