The Ghana Revenue Authority has stated that the issue of under-declaring goods at the ports has reduced drastically following the use of the single window platform.
The GRA also adds that compliance level at the ports has increased due to implementation of the policy which aimed at coordinating activities at the ports.
This was revealed at a stakeholder engagement on the new Ghana Trade Hub portal in Accra.
The issue of under-declaring goods was of grave concern to the government. The Ghana Revenue Authority had earlier stated that the country loses huge revenue due to leakages at the ports.
It was part of the reasons the government decided to create the single window platform to deal with such loopholes at the country’s ports.
The single window platform is a portal that provides a comprehensive set of online services to the trading community.
In an interview with Citi Business News on the sidelines of a stakeholder engagement on the new Ghana trade hub portal in Accra, Manager at the Customs Services Technical Bureau, Alfred Abio said the app has helped in facilitating and collecting the right revenue.
“This is the more reason why we are bringing this to the public so that we know what is happening. So, if for example, you present an invoice to a declarant, it shouldn’t bring something different to customs. So the transparency is the most important thing” he explained.
The portal holds various news regarding trade including import, export and transit, currency converter, duty and payment calculator, customs procedure code search, contact directory, as well as documents, payment, tax simulator among others.
