The Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) is calling on the government to align the trading community to its one district one factory initiative.
GUTA argues that as traders, they can play a significant role in the success of the program, adding that they can serve in the distribution of products from the factories.
President of GUTA, Dr. Joseph Obeng stressed that “I’m very happy, these days I can see that government is opening most of these factories. It means that it has started bearing fruits. I’ve seen a couple of them being commissioned lately”.
“But what I want the government to do is to rope in the trading community because if it will be a success, much depends on trading. Manufacturing is never complete unless it reaches the final consumers, and the trading public serves as the vehicle to do just that.”
He further indicated that his outfit is committed to ensuring the 1D1F project is sustained.
The One District One Factory (1D1F) initiative is the vision of the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to change the nature of Ghana’s economy from one which is dependent on import and export of raw material to one which is focused on manufacturing, value addition and export of processed goods.
Earlier this month, as part of the project, the President commissioned a GH¢7.3 million rice processing factory at Savelugu in the Northern Region and a $16 million Weddi Africa Tomato Processing Factory at Domfete in the Bono Region.
