Battling COVID-19: GEPA supports Volta Kente Weavers with hygiene products

The Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA), has presented a variety of personal protective items to the Volta Regional Kente Weavers Association.

The items include hand sanitizers, face masks and Veronica Buckets, liquid soap, disposable tissue and waste bins.

Deputy Chief Executive Officer of GEPA, Samuel Dentu, in empathizing with the weavers over the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the arts and crafts sector, said Authority will in the coming weeks, unveil the National Export Development Strategy (NEDS), which is intended to build the capacity of industry stakeholders and in turn give a significant boost to Ghana’s non-traditional export.

He is hopeful the gesture will help boost the region’s response to the management of the pandemic.

Mr. Dentu assured the traditional cloth weavers that GEPA is also committed to the implementation of new initiatives to minimize the impact of the health crisis on the industry.

Chairman of the Volta Regional Kente Weavers Association, Robert Dzokoto, received the items on behalf of the group, and expressed the appreciation to GEPA for the gesture, saying the items will boost adherence to health and safety protocols in various market centres.

He appealed to other organisations to take a cue from GEPA and assist members of the Association whose source of livelihood has been affected since the outbreak of the disease in Ghana.
